Tactilus Sensors Relieve Pressure

Article: Armada International

The double-edged sword of the body armour issue – weight vs. protection – is being revisited by a team of designers and engineers, with a view to relieving the stress and strain of wearing body armour for extended periods. Sensor Products Inc. has developed a body mapping pressure system called Tactilus® that highlights pressure points that develop when a soldier wearing body armour is performing his normal tasks and when in highly active situations. The project is being run through a contract with the US Air Force and is directed by KDH Defense Systems. Edge Product Development is using human factors engineering experience to design armour systems that eliminate the ‘hot spots’ that produce excessive pressure on the soldier’s body.
