Tire Tread

Application: Tire Tread

Tactile Pressure Indicating Sensor Film

Pressurex® is a thin flexible mylar film that reveals pressure distribution and magnitude between any two contacting surfaces. Pressurex® indicates precisely how tire surfaces deform and engage under stress and is useful as a confirmation of FE analysis. Pressurex® spatial resolution is fine enough to expose minute surface flows and wear spots.

Pressure destitution and magnitude of a tire tread

Upon the application of force the microcapsules rupture, producing an instantaneous and permanent color change. Like Litmus paper, the color intensity of Pressurex® is quantifiable; the color intensity reveals precisely what pressure level (PSI or kg/cm²) was applied at any discrete point on the surface of the film.
